As the seasons change and routines shift, fall is a great time to introduce new ways for toddlers to become more independent.
Here are 3 tips to share with families as summer comes to a close:
- Encourage them to help with getting dressed by picking out their own clothes (even if mismatched!) or practicing pulling up pants and socks. This builds fine motor skills and a sense of accomplishment.
- Allow them to assist with meal prep or cleanup; simple tasks like putting napkins on the table, helping wash safe veggies, or putting their plate in the sink foster responsibility and practical life skills.
- Learn to put away their own toys in designated bins or shelves. Consistent practice after playtime teaches organization and tidiness, making transitions smoother and empowering them as active contributors to the household.
