Choosing a Preschool

As many parents consider some form of Preschool for their toddlers, here are some tips to keep in mind about finding the “right” fit.
Goals of early education
- New opportunities, experiences and social interactions
- Practicing transitions and getting used to a classroom setting
What to look for
- License from the NYC Department of Health
- A good student to teacher ratio. The National Association for the Education of Young Children recommends 1 teacher for every 9 children (ages 2.5-5 years)
- Child-safe classrooms
- Lots of materials to play with and explore (arts and crafts supplies, blocks, instruments, dress up corner, etc)
- Space for physical play (running, jumping, climbing)
- Child size sinks, toilets and tables
- A daily schedule of activities/routines
- Happy children!!!
- Helpful and hands-on teachers
