Baby Fingernails

When a baby is first born, the fingernails are very soft and it can be difficult to separate the skin from the nails.  For this reason, it is recommended that you file nails with an emory board or keep the hands covered (with newborn shirts or with mittens) to prevent scratching during the first weeks of life.  Usually, in 2-4 weeks, the nails will start to separate from the skin of the finger and clipping of the nail is possible.
